CHAPLAIN (LTC) DARYL R. HAMAKER
Lt Col Daryl R. Hamaker is the Senior Chaplain for the
Alabama Air National Guard’s 117 th Air Refueling Wing in
Birmingham, Ala. He advises Wing and Group
commanders on all spiritual, morale, and moral welfare
matters for 117 th ARW members. He provides a ministry
of presence and reassurance, conducts and administers
worship services, and offers pastoral counseling. In
addition he represents the faith and military communities
in religious, patriotic and civic events. Chaplain Hamaker
supports the 117th Intelligence Squadron’s Distributed
Ground Station Alabama (DGS-AL), providing 24/7 on
call support to enlisted crewmembers, intelligence and
staff officers, during Combat Air Patrol missions, National
Emergencies, Crisis Incident Management and
Traumatic Stress Response due to the complexities
associated with reach-back missions for intelligence,
surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
Chaplain Hamaker began his military career in August
1984 as an enlisted Machinist Specialist in the 117th
Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, where he achieved the
rank of Staff Sergeant prior to separating in August 1990
to pursue a civilian career as a Machinist. In September
2006, Chaplain Hamaker rejoined the Alabama Air
National Guard, receiving a commission as a Chaplain
where he serves with an ecclesiastical endorsement issued by the North American Mission Board of the Southern
Baptist Convention.
